Abstract
New experimental results and theoretical arguments are used in conjunction with previously published data to demonstrate that resonant photoemission (RPS) does not provide a reliable measure of the occupied density of states in uranium intermetallic compounds. We implicate a resonant Auger process in this phenomenon and argue that RPS measurements (in conjunction with x-ray photoemission spectroscopy data) in this context are more useful as a qualitative guide to U -ligand hybridization.
