Term dependence in the Hartree-Fock approximation for heavy atoms

Abstract

Cases of substantial term dependence are found in the Hartree-Fock approximation for heavy atoms that are not attributable to a large dipole exchange interaction. They may be associated with ‘‘giant resonances’’ in electron impact excitation and ionization.
