Abstract

A scheme that elucidates the nature of critical-point symmetries in intermediately deformed odd-A nuclei by linking them to critical-point symmetries of neighboring even-even nuclei is introduced. Specifically, a symmetry called DX(3) is proposed, which shows primary characteristics in the decoupling limit for odd-A systems. Some experimental indications about the symmetry in some intermediately deformed odd-A nuclei are discussed.
