Abstract

The Gogny force is used to study, in the framework of the mean field theory and the collective Hamiltonian method, the octupole correlations present in the Xe138148 nuclei. The energy splittings between the ground state and the lowest-lying negative parity state are computed as well as the B(E1) and B(E3) transition probabilities. A peculiar behavior of the B(E1)’s as a function of neutron number is predicted.
