Abstract

The process of magnetization must consist of two parts, first the switching over of the magnetization in small elements of volume from one direction of easiest magnetization to another, and then a gradual change from this direction to that of the applied field. These two stages involve different distortions of the crystal, and an attempt has been made to associate with them the principal characteristics of the phenomena of resistance-change and magnetostriction.
