Abstract

Based on analysis of the structure and optical properties of Tl, Pb and Bi centres in crystals and comparison of their spectra with the near-IR luminescence spectra of bismuth-doped glasses, a model is proposed for the near-IR emitting bismuth centres in glass. Experimental evidence is presented in support of the model.
