Significance

The enantioselective silylation of acyclic triols and the desymmetrization of cyclic meso-triols is reported. Amino acid based organocatalyst 1 proved to be highly efficient for the reported transformation. Furthermore, the method was applied in a total synthesis towards malaria and rheumatism counteragents cleroindicin C, D, and F.
