Significance

[6.8]3Cyclacene 1 was prepared as the first fully conjugated purely hydrocarbon cyclacene. It also represents a subunit of a yet unknown type of carbon nanotube comprised of four-, six-, and eight-membered rings which can be envisioned by expanding the molecule along its principal molecular axis.
