Significance

Pederin is present in the haemolymph of the rove beetles of the Paederus genus. It exhibits a broad range of interesting biological properties, including nanomolar activity against tumor cells. This short and relatively efficient synthesis features a highly diastereoselective construction of the pyranone ring C via a Mukaiyama aldol cyclization.
