Significance

A rhodium-catalyzed, byproduct-free reductive C-C coupling of 2-vinyl pyridines with imines is described. Complete selectivity toward the branched product is seen for a wide scope of substrates, though the diastereoselectivity is usually modest. Various substituents are tolerated on the imines and 6-substituted pyridines, while unsubstituted 2-vinyl pyridines are not tolerated.
