Solvation spectra. Part 26.—Nuclear magnetic resonance studies of electrolyte solutions: cation and anion shifts in the hydroxylic proton resonance of methanol
Abstract
A method is suggested for assignment of individual ion shifts in the hydroxylic proton resonance of methanol based on the direct measurement of the resonance from solvent molecules bonded to the cations. This is tested for the electrolytes Mg(ClO4)2, Zn(ClO4)2 and Al(ClO4)3. The salt shift is discussed in terms of the individual cation and anion components.
