Mechanistic studies in the chemistry of urea. Part 6. Reaction of urea, 1-methylurea, and 1,3-dimethylurea with acetophenone in acid solution
Abstract
In acid solution acetophenone undergoes self-condensation to give dypnone, with elimination of water. If urea or 1-methylurea is present further reaction may occur to give dihydropyrimidin-2-one.
