Laser-induced fluorescence of jet-cooled 3-aminobenzonitrile: the onset of intramolecular vibrational redistribution

Abstract

Laser-induced fluorescence spectra of 3-aminobenzonitrile (3-ABN) both in excitation and emission are presented. The dependence of the onset of intramolecular vibrational redistribution of energy as a function of excess energy has been investigated. A relatively low onset has been observed and this is assigned to the presence of the fluxional amino group. The observed spectra are assigned in terms of related molecules and evidence for vibrations resulting from an amino inversion vibration is presented.
