Potential for the ground state of ammonia

Abstract

An analytical potential function in six variables has been derived for the ground state of ammonia which encompasses the regions of the minima and the inversion barrier and any other region in which the three hydrogen atoms are not too far apart. The potential is dominated by the 2-body and 3-body terms which have been derived from the potential functions of the dissociation fragments.
