Characterization of the ground ionic state of the NS molecule using photoelectron spectroscopy

Abstract

The band associated with the first ionization potential of the NS molecule, corresponding to the ionization NS+(X1Σ+)â† NS(X2Π), has been observed by photoelectron spectroscopy using HeI and NeI photon sources. The vertical ionization potential of this process is measured as 8.87 eV, in good agreement with values predicted from ab initioΔSCF calculations. Vibrational structure associated with the observed band allows we and re to be estimated as (1415 ± 20) cm–1 and (1.440 ± 0.005)Å respectively for the NS+(X1Σ+) state.
