Synthesis and reactivity of binuclear perhalogenophenyl derivatives of platinum(I). Molecular structure of [Pt2(C6F5)2(CO)2(PPh3)2]·0.4CHCl3

Abstract

Binuclear complexes of platinum(I)[Pt2(C6X5)2L2(PPh3)2](X = F, L = CO, p-MeC6H4NC, C6H11NC, or ButNC; X = Cl, L = CO or p-MeC6H4NC) have been prepared by a redox condensation reaction between cis-[Pt(C6X5)2L2] and [Pt(η2-C2H4)(PPh3)2]. The reactivity of these binuclear complexes towards phosphines, isocyanides, Mel, and I2 has been studied. The structure of [Pt2(C6F5)2(CO)2-(PPh3)2] has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction; space group C2/c, a= 18.272(4), b= 16.006(3), c= 17.787(5)Å, β= 101.046(19)°, Z= 4, R= 0.0378 for 3 449 unique reflections with F[gt-or-equal] 6σ(F). The structure consists of two Pt(C6F5)(CO)(PPh3) fragments linked by a Pt–Pt bond [2.599(1)Å].
