The synthesis and characterisation of [Ru6C(CO)1531 : η2 : η2-C16H162-O)]: an intermediate in the formation of the carbido-cluster [Ru6C(CO)1432 : η2 : η2-C16H16)]

Abstract

The complex Ru6C(CO)1531 : η2 : η2-C16H162-O)1 is isolated and fully characterised in solution and in the solid-state by a single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis: it constitutes a rare example of a molecular system containing both the carbido- and oxo-ligand of a cleaved carbonyl group which are trapped within a metal cluster framework; on heating 1 undergoes quantitative conversion to the carbido-cluster, Ru6C(CO)1432 : η2 : η2-C16H16)2, with the elimination of CO2.
