Methyl formate synthesis by hydrogenation of supercritical carbon dioxide in the presence of methanol

Addition of methanol in the homogeneous ruthenium-catalysed hydragenation of supercritical carbon dioxide to formic acid results in thermal esterification, producing methyl formate in higher yields and at lower temperatures than previously reported.
