Novel synthesis of a doubly cyclometallated diruthenium complex with strongly coupled metal centres

Abstract

A novel coupling method by which a ruthenium(II) complex of a 4′-chloro-substituted 2,2′ : 6′,2″-terpyridine is converted to a dinuclear doubly cyclometallated complex is reported; the dinuclear complex can be oxidized to give a strongly coupled mixed-oxidation state RuIIIRuII species.
