Effect of Dimethylbenzyldesmethylrifampicin (DMB) on Chemically Induced Mammary Tumours in Rats

Abstract

SEVERAL derivatives of rifamycin SV have been shown to inhibit virus-induced transformation in tissue culture. Transformation of chick fibroblasts induced by Rous sarcoma virus (RSV) is inhibited by rifampicin at levels of 20–60 µg/ml.1–3, and the transformation of Balb/3T3 cells induced by Moloney sarcoma virus (MSV) is inhibited more than 90% by dimethyl-benzyldesmethylrifampicin (DMB) at levels of 6 µg/ml.4,5.
