New insights into the astrophysical r-process

Abstract

Elements heavier than iron are known to be made partly by rapid neutron capture—the astrophysical r-process. New data from nuclear experiments and astronomical observations may allow some of the proposed astrophysical sites for the r-process to be ruled out and suggest that these elements are mostly produced in type II supernovae.
