Strain Differences in Thymus Weight in Mice with Different Predispositions to Spontaneous Mammary Cancer

Abstract

IT has been demonstrated that early thymectomy in high mammary tumour strains of mice results in retarded development of spontaneous mammary tumours1–7. We have shown that early thymectomy also inhibits the growth of syngeneic transplantable tumour in the high cancer C3H/He mouse strain8, whereas the transplantation of one to four additional syngeneic thymuses stimulates the growth of this tumour9. Thus, it appears that the thymus exerts an influence on mammary tumour development in high cancer strains of mice.
