Abstract
THERE is considerable discrepancy in the published fluorine contents of some biological specimens1–6 which can be at least partially attributed to shortcomings in standard decomposition techniques. We submitted a series of organofluorine compounds both to conventional decomposition1–7 and to decomposition by pyrohydrolysis8,9; typical results are shown in Table 1a.
