Abstract
SCRAPIE is a naturally occurring, experimentally transmissible disease of sheep, the causal agent of which has not been identified. The disease has been produced experimentally in goats1, in which species the incubation period ranges from 7 to 23 months2. Attention has been directed to similarities between the scrapie agent and the agent responsible for allergic encephalomyelitis, and although these two diseases are quite unlike pathologically, it has been suggested that similarities in pathogenesis may exist3.
