Abstract
Hartmann and Schartau1 have introduced the term 'gamone' to denote substances which are carriers of the interactions between the gametes at the fertilization. Androgamones (A) are those carried by the sperm. Hartmann, Schartau and Wallenfels2 separated two factors: A I is present in the methanol extract of the sperm, whereas A II is insoluble in methanol: We have carried out some further studies on the androgamones from Echinocardium cordatum, Psammechinus miliaris, Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis and Echinus esculentus.
