Abstract
THE author's aim has been βto produce a text-book of comparative neurology, giving an account of the nervous system as a whole, to trace its phylogenetic history, and to show the factors which have determined the course of evolution.β He states (in the preface) that the functional point of view is the chief characteristic of the present work, but that (p. 10), as an introduction to the study of the nervous system, it deals chiefly with structure.
