Abstract

The structure of (5S)-3,4-dichloro-5-menthoxy-2(5H)-furanone is reported. The title compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21: a = 6.650(2) Å, b = 8.038(3) Å, c = 14.858(8) Å, β = 97.01(3), V = 788.3(6) Å3, Z = 2, R = 0.0718, R w = 0.0795 for 735 observed reflections with I > 3σ (I), and the absolute configuration at C-5 of the furanone ring is shown to be (S).
