    For carbohydrate derivatives, it must be performed chemically prior to GLC analysis. Various dealkylation procedures of quaternary ammonium compounds are reported in the literature.8–15 Shamma et al.12 used sodium thiophenolate in 2-butanone for N-dealkylation, and Jenden et al.13 applied a modified procedure of this method to choline and acetylcholine as pharmacologically active substances.
