Genetic characteristics of Coxsackievirus A6 from children with hand, foot and mouth disease in Beijing, China, 2017–2019
2022, Infection, Genetics and EvolutionCitation Excerpt :As an emerging pathogen, CVA6 became the common causative agent of HFMD in Shenzhen in 2012(He et al., 2013). Since 2013, larger-scale HFMD outbreaks caused by CVA6 have repeated occurrence in China(Han et al., 2014; Tan et al., 2015). Hongyan G et al. first reported the outbreak of CVA6 associated HFMD in Beijing in 2013, since then, CVA6 had replaced EV-A71 and CVA16 as the leading HFMD pathogen in Beijing(Hongyan et al., 2014).
Changing epidemiology of hand, foot, and mouth disease in China, 2013−2019: a population-based study
2022, The Lancet Regional Health - Western PacificCitation Excerpt :Because of this local policy, the prevalence in the province might have been overestimated. Studies from several provinces/prefectures reported that a median of 49% (IQR: 43, 56%) of all EV test-positive specimens were due to CV-A6 in 2013 and 2015, indicating widespread emergence of CV-A6 in China since 2013.19-27 The increasing contribution of other enteroviruses in China since 2013 was also consistent with the worldwide (including Europe) outbreak of CV-A6 in 2013.
Estimation of the reproduction number and identification of periodicity for HFMD infections in northwest China
2020, Journal of Theoretical BiologyCitation Excerpt :Enteroviruses which cause HFMD mainly contains two different enteroviral species including at least 23 enteroviral serotypes (Lei et al., 2015), among which enterovirus 71 (EV-A71), coxsackievirus A16 (CV-A16) and coxsackievirus A6 (CV-A6) are most common to induce recent outbreaks (Kaminska et al., 2013; Repass et al., 2014). In particular, EV-A71 and CV-A16 lead to most of the outbreaks worldwide in previous years (Mao et al., 2014; Yip et al., 2013; He et al., 2013; Chatproedprai et al., 2010), while CV-A6 began to cause outbreaks in Asian regions from year 2009 (Wu et al., 2010; Chen et al., 2012; Fujimoto et al., 2012; Puenpa et al., 2013; Bian et al., 2015; Lo et al., 2011), and became one of the predominant pathogen in some areas in mainland China since 2012 (Han et al., 2014; Lu et al., 2014; Li et al., 2016; Gao et al., 2016; Chen et al., 2018). In mainland China, the number of annual reported HFMD cases is more than 1 million from 2008 to 2014 (Lei et al., 2015; Health, 2018; Wang et al., 2016a).
