Hydroacoustics as a relevant tool to monitor fish dynamics in large estuaries
2015, Fisheries ResearchCitation Excerpt :Although no sampling method is without its limitations (Jurvelius et al., 2011), the combined use of several different approaches (Emmrich et al., 2010; Kubečka et al., 2012; Selleslagh et al., 2012) that complement with different selectivities provides a relevant picture of the composition and size of fish populations. Monitoring medium and long-term ecosystem evolution in estuaries calls for innovative methods (Borja et al., 2010; Lepage, 2013). Hydroacoustics, which is an alternative or complementary method of studying fish populations (Thorne, 1983) is compatible with current best practice (Hateley et al., 2013; CEN, 2009).
