Highlights
► Fibrosis is a core process in a number of chronic progressive diseases with a variety of aetiologies. ► The dynamic nature of extracellular matrix deposition lends itself to biomarker discovery. ► Diagnostic, prognostic and theranostic markers are required. ► Platform technologies as well as statistical approaches to biomarker discovery are discussed. ► Interdisciplinary as a well as public/private collaborations will be required for success.
