Oral AbstractOP-102 [AJC » Electrocardiography and Non invasive electrocardiology] Evaluation of Tpe Interval and Tpe/QT Ratio in Patients with Mitral Valve Stenosis Before and After Baloon Valvuloplasty
Section snippets
Objective
Myocardial repolarization abnormalities are important electrocardiographic predictor of ventricular arrhythmogenesis. In patients with mitral valve stenosis (MS), ventricular repolarization has been evaluated by using T wave and QT interval measurements. The novel repolarization indexes Tpe interval and Tpe/QT ratio have not been studied in these patients. In this study we aimed to evaulate Tpe interval and Tpe/QT ratio in patients with MS before and after baloon valvuloplasty.
Methods
Thirty patients with severe MS and 30 healthy control subjects, matched by gender and age, were enrolled to this study. The severity of MS was defined by transthoracic echocardiographic examination. All patients underwent mitral balloon valvuloplasty. Tp-e interval, Tp-e/QT, and Tp-e/QTc ratios were measured from the 12-lead electrocardiogram. Firstly, these parameters were compared to healthy subjects. Subsequently, these parameters in patients with MS were compared before and after balloon
Results
Mean Tp-e interval was significantly prolonged in patients with MS compared to controls (85.02±9.12, 75,38±6.04 ms, respectively; P<0.001). Also Tp-e/QT ratio and Tp-e/QTc ratio values were significantly higher in patients with MS (0.217±0.02, 0.196±0.02 and 0.203±0.02, 0.184±0.01, respectively; P<0.001). After balloon valvuloplasty mean valve area was significantly increased (1,83±0,32, 1,18±0,15 cm2; p<0.001). Tp-e (85.02±9.12, 78.06±9.2 ms; p<0.001), Tp-e/QT ratio (0.217±0.02, 0,201±0.02;
Conclusions
We revealed that Tp-e interval, Tp-e/QT, and Tp-e/QTc ratios were increased in patients with severe MS. Also our study shows that balloon valvuloplasty have a favourable impact on parameters associated with myocardial repolarization.
