Bergenin ameliorates diabetic nephropathy in C57BL/6 J mice by TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signalling pathway regulation
2023, Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology7-hydroxycoumarin modulates Nrf2/HO-1 and microRNA-34a/SIRT1 signaling and prevents cisplatin-induced oxidative stress, inflammation, and kidney injury in rats
2022, Life SciencesCitation Excerpt :7-HC possesses a wide range of bioactivities, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, anti-fibrotic, neuroprotective, and other effects [13,18–20]. The protective efficacy of a single dose of 7-HC against nephrotoxicity induced by various agents such as gentamicin [21] and CIS [22], as well as diabetic nephropathy [23] has been reported. However, the mechanism underlying the renoprotective effect of 7-HC is not fully understood.
Natural coumarins: Preclinical evidence-based potential candidates to alleviate diabetic nephropathy
2022, Phytomedicine PlusCitation Excerpt :Umbelliferone showed protective effects through TLR/NF-κB signaling pathway, causing a reduction in proinflammatory cytokines, IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α levels. In addition, umbelliferone treatment alleviated the rise in uric acid, blood glucose, and triglyceride levels and also reduced creatinine levels (Wang et al., 2019). Umbelliferone also causes downregulation of the molecular markers related to epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), which causes loss of cellular adhesion, cytoskeletal remodeling, and other morphological changes (Zheng et al., 2009).
Coumarins derivatives and inflammation: Review of their effects on the inflammatory signaling pathways
2022, European Journal of PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Umb was found to have an anti-inflammatory effect and to protect organs from damage in diabetic mice through modulating the TLR pathways. Wang et al. used a streptozotocin-induced diabetes model and showed that a 28 days oral treatment of Umb improved renal function in mice, this improvement was demonstrated biochemically by a decrease in serum creatinine and proteinuria as well as a histopathological improvement on renal biopsies (Wang et al., 2019a). At the end of the experiment, Western blot and ELISA results showed a substantial decrease in the expression levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, TLR-2, TLR-4, MyD-88 and nuclear NF-κB/p65 in renal tissues in Umb treated mice compared to control mice.

2021, Biomedicine and PharmacotherapyCitation Excerpt :Umbelliferone is reported to the most abundant coumarin [45]. Umbelliferone is reported to possess many biological activities: antibacterial [68], antioxidant, and antidiabetic [93,94]. Furanocoumarins are tricyclic aromatic compounds containing α-benzopyrone fused furan ring system [95].
