2015, Neurotoxicology and TeratologyCitation Excerpt :There are two caveats to the use of the same temperature for room air and water. In old rats there is a clear age-dependent loss of temperature regulation such that if trials are given close together aged rats become hypothermic and this impairs spatial learning (Lindner and Ribkoff, 1991). The solution is to warm older rats between trials and/or provide longer intertrial intervals (ITI).
