A novel and practical access to 13-epi-17-ketosteroids
Upon heating with nickel powder in acetic acid and octane, 17-acetoximinosteroids give the corresponding 13-epi ketosteroids in good yield.

2010, Alkaloids: Chemistry and BiologyCitation Excerpt :It was observed that the cyclization of methylthio amides could be achieved using an oxidative radical cyclization mediated by manganese(III) acetate in refluxing 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol in the presence of a copper(II) additive (28). Initial tests on a model system involved treatment of methylthio amide 81 with manganese(III) acetate and copper(II) triflate to afford the desired tetracyclic core 83 in 54% yield (Scheme 13) (29). It was rationalized that after radical cyclization the aromatic ring is able to attack a cationic intermediate 82, formed by oxidation of the cyclized radical.
Dioxime oxalates; new iminyl radical precursors for syntheses of N-heterocycles
2008, TetrahedronCitation Excerpt :A range of anticancer alkaloids including camptothecin, mappicine and luotonin A were synthesized via this methodology.14 Direct or sensitized photolyses of oxime esters of N-hydroxypyridine-2-thione,15 of ketoxime xanthates,16 of acyloximes17,18 and of O-(4-cyanophenyl)oximes19 have also been used for iminyl radical mediated syntheses of heterocycles. Thermal methods are usually advantageous in synthetic procedures.
