Ion-selective potentiometric sensors with silicone sensing membranes: A review
2022, Current Opinion in ElectrochemistryCitation Excerpt :Successful anion sensing with Dow 3140 silicone has to date only been reported for ISMs modified with plasticizer. The silicone Dow 3140 was used to prepare ISE membranes with ETH 1001 (diethyl N,N′-[(4R,5R)-4,5-dimethyl-1,8-dioxo-3,6-dioxaoctamethylene]bis(12-methylaminododecanoate) as Ca2+ ionophore, tridodecylamine (TDDA) as pH ionophore, valinomycin as K+ ionophore, and a calix[4]arene ethyl ester derivative as Na+ ionophore [62]. When ETH 1001 was used with tetrakis(4-chloro-phenyl)borate (KTpCIPB) as ionic site, poor response slopes to Ca2+ were obtained.
Highly sensing and transducing materials for potentiometric ion sensors with versatile applicability
2022, Progress in Materials ScienceCitation Excerpt :The even more effective strategy is to thoroughly get rid of the plasticized PVC by using new membrane matrices without plasticizer, which would totally tackle these shortcomings since the transmembrane ion flux and leakage of the ionophores could be largely suppressed [367]. Considering the fact that silicone rubbers (SRs) usually have a superior adhesion to different substrates in combination with good mechanical properties and a lower nonspecific adsorption of proteins in biological samples [368], one component room-temperature vulcanizing silicone rubber RTV3140 [369-373] and polyurethane [374,375] have once been used as membrane matrix to replace the plasticized PVC matrix. But it turns out that the resistance of the silicon rubber-based ISMs is much higher than that of plasticized PVC membrane, resulting in a relatively high noise level and serious potential drift.
Highly selective and robust nanocomposite-based sensors for potassium ions detection
2021, Applied Materials TodayCitation Excerpt :The integration of biopolymers such as gelatin hydrogels with incorporated silver nanoparticles, and Poly(acrylonitrile-co-acrylic acid) Composites have been proven to enhance the biological applications of nanocomposites by improving their antibacterial properties [18,19], these materials have not been applied to ion sensing yet. However, multiple alternatives to PVC have been adapted within recent years such as polyacrylate [20], polyurethane [21] and organosilicon compounds [22], showing a Nernstian sensitivity. However, due to the limited ionic diffusion inside these polymeric membranes, the equilibration times are high, up to months or years, than the conventional PVC-based membranes, which normally reaches an equilibrium after 12 h [23].
Novel and selective potentiometric sensors for Cinchocaine HCl determination in its pure and Co-formulated dosage form: A comparative study of in situ carbon sensors based on different ion pairing agents
2021, Measurement: Journal of the International Measurement ConfederationStable Pb2+ ion-selective electrodes based on polyaniline-TiO<inf>2</inf> solid contacts
2020, Analytica Chimica ActaCitation Excerpt :After being conditioned in a 10−9 M Pb(NO3)2 solution for six weeks, the GC/PANI-TiO2-50/Pb2+-ISE potential at low concentrations increased considerably, but the ISE was still showed a linear response in the Pb(NO3)2 concentration range from 10−3-10−7 M. The loss of sensitivity as low concentrations may have been due to partial leaching of ionophores and plasticizers from the electrode into the sample solution [32–38]. The presence of a water layer at the interface between the Pb2+-selective membrane and the electronic conductor is known to affect ISE stability [39].
Few-layer graphene and polyaniline composite as ion-to-electron transducer in silicone rubber solid-contact ion-selective electrodes
2015, Sensors and Actuators, B: ChemicalCitation Excerpt :The biased selectivity coefficient of Ca2+ against Na+ was determined for the CaSCISEs and CaCDEs from the aqueous layer test (separate solution method). The selectivity coefficients for this specific ISM type have been previously reported and no further selectivity studies were therefore conducted with the silicone rubber ISMs [28,49,50]. Moreover, the redox sensitivity of only the CaSCISEs having the PANI–graphene composite as the SC was studied in 0.01 M K3/4Fe(CN)6 solutions with 0.1 M CaCl2 as the supporting electrolyte by varying the Fe3+/Fe2+ ratio from 0.1 to 10.
