Abstract

Recent experiments suggested that 29 cm−1 phonons in ruby can be totally trapped by resonance scattering at eletronic states and decay anharmonically. New experiments indicate, however, that the phonons leave the resonance volume spatially due to a process of spectral-spatial diffusion.
