However, further studies will be needed to clarify the effect of CGA-derived peptides including pancreastatin, because pancreastatin-like immunoreactivity has also been found in senile plaques of AD using 3 different rabbit polyclonal antibodies raised against human pancreastatin, suggesting that CGA is cleaved to produce pancreastatin in some globular dystrophic neurites in senile plaques (Yasuhara et al., 1996). Based on the gene sequence of human CGA, human pancreastatin was deduced to be a 52–amino acid peptide amide, corresponding to the 250 to 301 portion of human CGA.
