Gonadotropin-inhibitory hormone (GnIH) in the amphibian brain and its relationship with the gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) system: An overview
2017, General and Comparative EndocrinologyNeuroendocrine control of spawning in amphibians and its practical applications
2016, General and Comparative EndocrinologyCitation Excerpt :Early studies reported a GnRH-like substance in the amphibian brain that was structurally identical to that in mammals (Rivier et al., 1981). Since then, HPLC and immunological analysis have identified several GnRH variants in anurans (Lithobates pipiens, Hyla regilla, Xenopus laevis) and urodeles (Taricha granulosa, Ambystoma gracile) including mammalian GnRH (mGnRH/GnRH-I), chicken GnRH-II (cGnRH-II/GnRH-II) and salmon GnRH (sGnRH/GnRH-III) (King and Millar, 1986; Sherwood et al., 1986). The two most common forms that occur in amphibian brains are mGnRH and cGnRH-II (Licht et al., 1994).
