In support of this notion, Yount et al. (1992) showed that a severe lesion of the dentate gyrus hilus can induce electroencephalographic seizures, which causes CyPA mRNA levels to rise 2.5-fold in the rat hippocampus. Unfortunately, these authors did not analyse protein levels, but in a recent study, repeated psychosocial stress was shown to increase CyPA protein levels by 20% in the rat hippocampus (Carboni et al., 2006).
