Effects of salinity and endocrine-disrupting chemicals on expression of prolactin and prolactin receptor genes in the euryhaline hermaphroditic fish, Kryptolebias marmoratus
2010, Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology - C Toxicology and PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Prolactin (PRL) is an adenohypophysial hormone with an osmoregulatory action, and plays an important role in keeping the homeostasis of water and electrolytes, growth, development, endocrinology, metabolism, brain functions, behavior, reproduction, immunoregulation, and protection (Power, 2005; Lee et al., 2006a). Sequences of the fish PRL gene have been reported from several species such as yellow perch (Lynn and Shepherd, 2007), black porgy (Chang et al., 2007), salmon (Song et al., 1988), rainbow trout (Mercier et al., 1989), goldfish (Chan et al., 1996), tilapia (Rentier-Delrue et al., 1989; Swennen et al., 1992; Poncelet et al., 1996), carp (Chen et al., 1991; Chang et al., 1992), Chinook salmon (Xiong et al., 1992), pufferfish (Lee et al., 2006a), orange-spotted grouper (Zhang et al., 2004), European sea bass (Doliana et al., 1994), and sea bream (Santos et al., 1999). PRL exerts its actions via binding to a specific PRL receptor (PRLR).
Down-regulation of goldfish (Carassius auratus) prolactin gene expression by dopamine and thyrotropin releasing hormone
2008, General and Comparative EndocrinologyCitation Excerpt :Goldfish genomic DNA was digested with five restriction endonucleases followed by genomic PCR as suggested in the Genome Walker Kit (Clonetech, Palo Alto, CA) with gene specific primers, gfPRLR2 (5′-ACCGTTGATGGAGACAAACCCACACAT-3′) and gfPRLR3 (5′-CAGTCTAGATCCTTGAGTCATT-3′), designed from the start codon and signal peptide region according to the gfPRL cDNA sequences (NCBI Accession Nos. S82197 and s82220 for gfPRL P1A and P8A, respectively) (Chan et al., 1996). Other PCR primers were provided by the Genome Walker Kit (Clonetech, Palo Alto, CA).
