Acute non-traumatic spinal subarachnoid hematomas: A report of five cases and a systematic review of literature
2023, Journal of Orthopaedic ScienceCitation Excerpt :Six months after surgery, no neurological improvement was observed. Sixteen studies met the inclusion criteria for the present systematic review (Fig. 3) [1,9–23]. Of these, we included 22 patients with acute non-traumatic SSHs that were surgically confirmed as shown in Table 3.
Spinal Cord Hemorrhage
2018, Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular DiseasesCitation Excerpt :The mechanism of SSH formation remains poorly understood. The flow of CSF usually dilutes and “‘washes’” away the blood, preventing the formation of a clot in the subarachnoid space, thus either severe bleeding or diminished CSF flow is required to cancel out this process.14,61 The causes of SSH are mostly related to lumbar puncture or spinal anesthesia in the setting of anticoagulation therapy.14
