Abstract

Maleimycin (1), a minor metabolite of Streptomyces showdoensis possesses antibiotic and antitumor activity but is not available in sufficient quantity from natural sources for complete biological testing. Described is an efficient four step total synthesis of racemic maleimycin from readily available cyclopenten-1,2-dicarboxylic acid, which now makes this metabolite available in quantity.

Inflammation is the body's first response of the immune system to infection or irritation. During the inflammatory process, large quantities of the inflammatory mediators are produced by the inducible isoforms of iNOS and COX-2 [22]. Thus we checked the levels of iNOS and COX-2 by immunoblotting in response to drugs treatment in LPS administered cells.
