Abstract

Patients with unilateral removals from the left or right frontal, central, temporal, or parietal regions and normal control subjects were asked to copy complex movements of the arm or face. On the arm task, the largest deficit was found to follow lesions of the left parietal lobe, although a milder impairment accompanied lesions of either frontal lobe. On the face task, in contrast, the left parietal-lobe lesions caused no impairment, whereas marked deficits were seen after frontal-lobe lesions of either side. Lesions elsewhere in either hemisphere did not affect performance on either task. In this patient population (few of whom were dysphasic), no relationship was found between dysphasia and deficits in movement-copying.
