Correlation of the anodic peak potentials with the quantum mechanical properties of various vinyl compounds

Abstract

The anodic peak potentials, Ep,a of various vinyl compounds were measured by cyclic voltammetry. The measurements were made in the acetonitrile-tetrabutylammonium fluoroborate system versus a Ag0Ag+ (0.01 M) reference electrode. The measured potentials were correlated to π-orbital energies and bond orders calculated by semi-empirical SCF MO methods. A linear correlation was obtained.
