2004, Geochimica et Cosmochimica ActaCitation Excerpt :In Sykes and Kubicki (1993), we argued that the Kohn et al. (1992) model did not adequately address the changes observed in the vibrational spectra of hydrous albite melts as represented in the quenched glasses. A shoulder near 900 cm−1 was observed in the hydrous glass spectrum that was not observed in the anhydrous glass spectra (Mysen et al., 1980; McMillan et al., 1983; Mysen and Virgo, 1986; Silver and Stolper, 1989). Hence, model vibrational frequencies were also calculated in this study to verify that the T-(OH)-T configuration could reproduce the observed frequency changes.
