The use of high-resolution elevation histograms for mapping submerged terraces: Tests from the Eastern Tyrrhenian Sea and the Eastern Atlantic Ocean
2011, Quaternary InternationalCitation Excerpt :The Gorringe Bank (Fig. 3C) is the most prominent bathymetric feature of the ‘Horseshoe’ submarine chain, located in the south-western offshore of Portugal, along the Azores-Gibraltar segment of the Europe–Africa plate boundary. Investigations on Gorringe Bank began more than 30 years ago (Ryan et al., 1973; Auzende et al., 1978; Pritchard and Mitchell, 1979; Lagabrielle and Auzende, 1982; Girardeau et al., 1998). Large-scale bathymetry was acquired by the Ifremer Research Institute (Beuzart et al., 1979, scale 1:100 000).
