Abstract

The recombination of iodine atoms in the carrier gas Ar has been studied in the pressure range 0.5–1000 atm using conventional flash photolysis and laser flash photolysis. From the pressure dependence of the reaction order, the energy-transfer and the intermediate-complex component of the reaction are separated. The equilibrium constant for I + Ar ⇌ IAr is estimated.
