2014, Behavioural Brain ResearchCitation Excerpt :Typically, the paradigm entails the use of psychostimulant drugs such as cocaine and amphetamine as unconditioned stimuli at dose levels that generate hyper-locomotion as an unconditioned response. Repeated pairings of the drug treatments with placement in a specific test environment commonly results in context specific drug conditioning and sensitization effects [9–18]. While the same contextual cues elicit the conditioned and sensitized response, it has been repeatedly shown that extinction of the conditioned drug response to contextual cues has little or no effect upon the context dependent sensitized drug response [12,19–21].
