Incipient deformation twinning in dynamically sheared bcc tantalum
2014, Acta MaterialiaCitation Excerpt :Once nucleated, another closely related problem is the growth of the twin nucleus. Based on experimental observations, Mahajan envisaged the development of a macroscopic twin through growth and coalescence of individual twins that were nucleated at different levels of a slip band [15–17]. Despite these previous studies, the process through which an individual “embryonic” twin grows to become a bigger “infant” twin and coalesces with others to form a “mature” twin has still not been explicitly described.
